Christmas Presents

It seems that now Christmas starts in September, with pressure to buy cards, decorations and gifts, as though that is the means by which we show our love and compassions for others.

For me, experiencing Christmas at Kids Cancer Charity, I felt that in some part I was able to recognize a deeper meaning to Christmas.

We were asked by several companies to compile a list of gifts that their staff wanted to buy for the children that we were working with. Each gift was donated anonymously and packaged carefully for each child.

Offering those presents to the children and seeing a look of both surprise and pleasure allows even the most ill of children to get back to those moments of simple joy that make childhood so meaningful. I felt touched that strangers who would never get to meet the children they had bought for were so willing and thoughtful to think of others and to want to make someone else's Christmas so special.
